چکیده

In 1880, Burdon-Sanderson and Page recorded the ECG of the frog simultaneously with monophasic action potentials from the base and the apex of the left ventricle (LV).1 Part of the ventricular muscle was injured with a hot wire, and monophasic action potentials were recorded as the potential difference between the injured region and an uninjured area. The ECG was recorded with a capillary electrometer, a slow, but reliable instrument. They noted that repolarization occurred earlier at the base than at the apex.1 Warming the base resulted in a shortening of the basal action potential, leading to a deeper, more negative, and longer T wave in the ECG. Comparable findings were reported by Bayliss and Starling2 and by Mines.3 Noble and Cohen4 have reviewed the early literature on the T wave.

Local transmural action potential gradients are absent in the isolated, intact dog heart but present in the corresponding coronary‐perfused wedge

The left ventricular (LV) coronary-perfused canine wedge preparation is a model commonly used for studying cardiac repolarization. In wedge studies, transmembrane potentials typically are recorded; whereas, extracellular electrical recordings are commonly used in intact hearts. We compared electrically measured activation recovery interval (ARI) patterns in the intact heart with those recorded ...

Anaylsis of ventricular activation and repolarization from intramural and epicardial potential distributions for ectopic beats in the intact dog.

Ventricular activation and repolarization were examined by measuring intramural and epicardial potential distributions during ectopic sequences in intact dogs. Potential distributions were used because they provided a direct measure of all of repolarization. Ectopic sequences produced almost unidirectional excitation across the heart along with repolarization events that were different from nor...

Ventricular stimulus site influences dynamic dispersion of repolarization in the intact human heart

The spatial variation in restitution properties in relation to varying stimulus site is poorly defined. This study aimed to investigate the effect of varying stimulus site on apicobasal and transmural activation time (AT), action potential duration (APD) and repolarization time (RT) during restitution studies in the intact human heart. Ten patients with structurally normal hearts, undergoing cl...

Repolarization gradients in the canine left ventricle before and after induction of short-term cardiac memory.

BACKGROUND Questions remain about the contributions of transmural versus apicobasal repolarization gradients to the configuration of the T wave in control settings and after the induction of short-term cardiac memory. METHODS AND RESULTS Short-term cardiac memory is seen as T-wave changes induced by altered ventricular activation that persists after restoration of sinus rhythm. We studied car...

Transmural dispersion of repolarization in failing and nonfailing human ventricle.

RATIONALE Transmural dispersion of repolarization has been shown to play a role in the genesis of ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation in different animal models of heart failure (HF). Heterogeneous changes of repolarization within the midmyocardial population of ventricular cells have been considered an important contributor to the HF phenotype. However, there is limited electrophysiologic...
